Rocketdock gallery is closing
Saturday, July 28, 2018 by JcRabbit | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Just a heads up to let you guys know that the Rocketdock gallery is going to be taken down on August 6th 2018. The site is currently in Read-Only mode for those who would like to archive their content.
This truly saddens me personally, it feels like the end of an era (and Skinz.org all over again). Hundreds of thousands of dock skins, icons, animated icons, etc, are going to disappear from the net forever in one single swoop.
Anyway, if there is something you guys would like to save/archive for yourselves, now is the time to do it.
Also, a quick reminder that the Winstep Nexus dock is fully compatible with RocketDock skins and natively supports animated icons, so if you're a Winstep user you might be interested in downloading some of the best dock skins and animated icons from there too - while you still can.

I use RocketDock on my Win 10 cause OD runs slow on it. I do have Nexus dock installed but the free version is limited for my liking. OD was the best because you could have multiple docks plus tabbed docks.

Anything out there pales in comparison to Winstep.

Not to rain on your parade, Jorge, but for those who are interested, RocketDock skins, docklets and icons are also available over at devart. I've not yet checked the RocketDock library over there, having always used ObjectDock and Nexus, but it looks to be fairly comprehensive.

True, very true indeed, but some great skins were made for RocketDock.... and better still, they are compatible with Winstep's Nexus.

Why are you comparing the paid version of OD to the free version of Nexus? IIRC, the free version of OD also only supported a single dock, and no tabbed docks.
Nexus Ultimate (the paid version) supports multiple docks, infinite number of nested sub-docks (a bit like a Stacks docklet) and also a tabbed dock (the Shelf) which has specialized tabs able to display the contents of folders, recent documents, the Desktop, Windows 10 UWP apps, Windows Control Panel, etc...
For those not following THIS THREAD on the Winstep forums, the next release is going to be HUGE: it adds support for multiple tabbed docks, vertical tabbed docks, tabbed dock scaling (you can now make them bigger if you have poor eyesight or a huge screen res) and something new called 'Drawers' (a mix between a single-tab tabbed dock and a dock).

I'm pretty sure it won't have all the stuff that exists in the RocketDock gallery, Starkers.
For instance, Nexus natively supports animated icons (you simply drag & drop the PNG strip into ANY item on the dock and it just works, no need for docklets or anything!), and there is this guy named Spippy that made HUNDREDS of those.
While I haven't checked DA to see if they are also there, knowing him (he did some animated icons for Nexus too, a few years ago) he liked to have everything centralized for rating/number of download purposes, so I doubt it.
Check is in the mail.

I knew every topic regarding Dock is going to gaslight/hijack by the particular non-Stardock individual.

First, I was the one who posted this topic. Second, it was posted on Wincustomize which has a Winstep themes section since the very beginning, FYI. Third, you seem to have an axe to grind - if anyone here is out-of-line is you.
There are a lot of Stardock users who are also Winstep users and vice-versa, as it's obvious from the replies above. Wasn't the explanation given by the moderators here (and me) enough for you the other time?

I see only comparisons between different apps. I do not see gaslighting and or hijacking. Respect.
Edit: Didn't see your post Jorge.

Sorry I didn't know the free version of OD just has a single dock. If you are making tabbed docks for Nexus similar to OD this would be huge and I'd be interested.

The tabbed dock in Nexus Ultimate is called the 'Shelf' and goes a bit further than OD tabbed docks, in that each tab in the Shelf/tabbed dock can have a different function (besides the normal one where you manually drag & drop shortcuts like in the dock).
For instance, you can add a 'Desktop' tab type to the Shelf which will display the contents of the Windows Desktop in your tabbed dock (with full drag & drop support) - you can then hide the Desktop icons because they can now be accessed via the Shelf instead. A 'Folder' tab type allows you to display the contents of any folder in your hard drive(s) , again with full drag & drop support (great for working on multiple projects). The 'Apps' tab type will show you all the UWP apps currently installed on your Windows 10 PC. The 'Recent Documents' tab will show your <x> (you can define <x>) most recent documents and so on.
There are 20 different tab types, to give you an idea.
The current official v18.5 release only supports a single horizontal Shelf/tabbed dock which can be docked at the top or bottom of the screen or even left floating, but that has changed in the next release (as I mentioned above) which offers support for multiple, as well as vertical, Shelves/tabbed docks and also for a new thing called 'Drawers'.
There is already a private beta floating around show casing all these new features, but you MUST be already running Nexus Ultimate or Winstep Xtreme v18.5 to give it a try. Soon there will be a public beta though, followed by the official release some time next month.

I did take a brief look at devart's gallery some time ago but never completed browsing it, hence I'm not sure exactly what skins they have or by who. I've seen work by Spippy during my travels to find skins for nexus, but I don't know if he ever uploaded any to devart or not.
In any event, I am a 100% fan of Winstep apps and need to get my main PCs up and running again to get maximum benefit from the apps and screen real estate. Although I have my little HP 2-in-1 hooked up to a monitor I'm not getting the best result because it doesn't support the resolution for a 35" ultra wide screen. With a bit of luck my mobo will be returned from warranty, and the part I'm waiting on for the other machine arrives this week.
Where's the fingers crossed smiley when you need him?

I'm waiting for nVidia to finally get off their butts and release the next generation of video cards, so I can get my next system - top end, so it can last me another 5 years like the current one has. My current system has a 980ti, which is not enough for 60 FPS gaming on a 4K screen. The 1080ti is *almost* there, but not quite, so I prefer waiting for the next generation instead. Then I get all the components at once (including that Intel Optane SSD 905P I have been salivating about) and Bob's your uncle.

That does sound, well, HUGE

I would be very interested in creating Dock icons in addition to my iconpackages. Are dock icons PNG images ? and what size formats are required ?

I probably need to stress that JcRabbit is very much NOT in the wrong posting about the Rocketdock closure or about his Winstep alternative option.
Jorge's been around since before Wincustomize as a [very much] valued developer of skinning/skinnable software, hence our hosting of the Winstep Gallery here.
And anyone is more than welcome to post news re skinning, no matter who...

That's why WC forums are the best, there's no chest beating by Stardock when it comes to desktop customisation. Winstep, Rainlendar and others have galleries here and news regarding any of them is displayed here on WC without prejudice. That's the way it should be.

Good to know. I made sure to download the exe and all the docks. I don't use it anymore but it is good to have archived in case I want too again someday.
Are docks no longer popular? Personally I prefer a dock over other options including fences. I tend to not have a lot of shortcuts on my desktop so a simple dock does the trick for me.
