Rocketdock gallery is closing
Saturday, July 28, 2018 by JcRabbit | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Just a heads up to let you guys know that the Rocketdock gallery is going to be taken down on August 6th 2018. The site is currently in Read-Only mode for those who would like to archive their content.
This truly saddens me personally, it feels like the end of an era (and Skinz.org all over again). Hundreds of thousands of dock skins, icons, animated icons, etc, are going to disappear from the net forever in one single swoop.
Anyway, if there is something you guys would like to save/archive for yourselves, now is the time to do it.
Also, a quick reminder that the Winstep Nexus dock is fully compatible with RocketDock skins and natively supports animated icons, so if you're a Winstep user you might be interested in downloading some of the best dock skins and animated icons from there too - while you still can.

When you look at ObjectDock, RocketDock and Nexus Dock and realize that all of them are compatible IMO it goes to show the flexibility of Winstep and its development over more than a decade. Even Microsoft can't make that claim as to their flexibility among their own applications. Apple can't make that claim either with their single dock. Put up a Nexus dock then take icons from OD and RD (Rocketdock) and stick 'em together you get the best of three worlds, not just one. Who else can say that?

Thanks for pointing this out once again, Jafo.
Sincerely, I don't know what is going on recently, I don't recall this type of 'white-knighting' ('Stardock-knighting'? lol) ever happening when the skinning community was a LOT more active and I posted here even more frequently.
Perhaps because back then nearly all users here knew what Wincustomize was about and that, despite being backed by Stardock, it was also a place for *all* Windows customization applications. Another sign of the times, I guess.
Guys, look around you. Anyone can see that Windows customization is at an all time low with skinning sites and forums closing left and right, related applications being in limbo or abandoned, etc - so it would be perhaps better to cherish what you do STILL have instead of antagonizing the people behind it.
For those who don't know, Stardock's and Winstep's relation goes all the way back to 1999, even before the creation of Wincustomize. That's almost 20 years of Jafo correcting my spelling mistakes.
