Just in case the picture disappears...Seven(C:)>Program data>Microsoft>Windows>Start menu...Programs folder copied to...ANY cascadable folder on the right side of the start menu.

I don't like the Windows 7 Start menu arrangement at all--I miss the icons (for visual appeal), and I don't like the scrolling menu, so you've found two winners for me. Thanks again.

The picture actually shows both ways simultaneously...thats not what really happens when you navigate thru the cascaded view.

I can understand why you wouldn't like the scrolling menus, especially if you don't reorder/condense them. But I was never a fan of chasing sub-menus across the screen. (ok, so I'm the nimrod) 

I agree. A slip of the hand and whoops, you're in the wrong menu instead of the one you were after (one thing I hate about those kinds of drop/sub menus in website navigation).

main thing I like is they open themselves ... no clicking ... and it's easier for me to read the horizontal alignment.

whats cool about this is both ways still work ... it's not one  or the other .

There's that nice big list, in alphabetical order, of the programs you use instead of scrolling through a bunch of folders. The way I.R. has it set up is even better than XP because you can tailor it exactly to your specifications and not have to deal with sub menus by copying the actual shortcuts you need into the start folder. No doubt I could get used to the Windows 7 Start menu set up someday, but I haven't liked it once yet.

like in XP you have that empty space in 7 all the Thumbnails are side-by-side. 

and do you have one for moving a folder, File like in XP

EX. window open and you got lets say folders, Pictures, apps, Etc. and you want to move this Pic by this folder but in 7 we can't

very astute willis...If I hadnt been lazy or in a hurry...I could have eliminated all the folders and subfolders and just went straight for the app ececutables...no chasing submenus or avoiding website shortcuts or uninstall shorts.I just wanted people to see them as they are while they are still like the original XP method.

The regular full versions  could remain happily  in their original locations on the 'new and improved' menu.

Course,if some of ya'll is happy wallowing in MS craptitude...I can keep these little gems to mahself.

Not sure what you mean by the first one,

the second I never noticed because I dont organize my folders to that level...but I see what you mean now...its like its locked into autoarrange and you cant reorder the files in any way.

I guess you could google out a registry setting that might turn that off.

This is true...you can and should condense this stuff...but sometimes as a skinner you leave stuff the wrong way cuz thats the way most users see things.

I was just being ornery...I know everybody uses their PC's different...I'm teasing them because you could give away free icecream and someone would claim bought iceceam was better. Its the way of the net.

Win7 leaves just enough space for me to right-click in an empty area so I dont have a problem with that...

I'm not on XP right now but I never noticed that much empty space before...actually that much space would bother me...heheh,see...we are all different.

Bet there is a reg setting for that tho. MS buries lots of layout and window metric settings in the registry.

Dont mistake me for an expert...I just play one on the internet...actually I just get a bug up my ass about certain things.

For the other one I would google autoarrange settings in Win7 or something like that.

Thats some good detective work there DC...feels good to take back another piece of control from MS.

Did they really think nobody would ever want to turn off autoarrange?...or notice it was missing?(not including me of course since I usually had it on...I only sort 1 of 3 ways...name,group by type,or modified)

The good thing about MS tho is you can bet they never bother to actually clean the code up and really remove something...they just code over it to hide it.Leaving it to the determined user to discover where.

7,while in listview,selects the whole row of details...rather than just the title/name.Pretty obscure issue but it mattered to somebody.

Something they did to the registry also turned back on several folder options...that MS decided nobody needed.

Heres is another interesting trick...you can reg hack the command bar to autohide. I dont hate the commandbar,but it is about half useless and completely unconfigurable...I would LOVE the damn thing if I could set my own commands for it.

And I AM still looking.

I didnt try the autohide trick yet because unless its key triggered(like the toolbar is with the alt key) then you would be running into it everytime you tried to get past it to anything above it.
